You and Your GP Practice
The NHS has created a helpful guide called You and Your General Practice to help you understand how your GP surgery works and how to make the most of the care we provide. It explains the different ways you can contact us, what to do if the practice is closed, and what happens when you ask for an appointment. You’ll also find information about the healthcare professionals who may help with your care — including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and healthcare assistants — and how we decide who is best placed to support you.
The guide also covers how to register with a GP, what you need (and don’t need) to register, and your rights if you’re new to the UK or away from home. It reminds us all that NHS GP services are free, that everyone should be treated with kindness and respect, and shares a few simple ways you can help us — like arriving on time, cancelling appointments if you can’t attend, and using the NHS App when possible.
